2018 marked another year of forward progress for The American College of Greece, but also a year of loss as the College community suffered the tragedy of ACG staff, students and family killed in the Athens summer wildfire as well as the passing of two College leaders, Harold O. Levy (a recent member of the ACG board of trustees) and Chancellor Emeritus, Dr. John S. Bailey.

Dr. Bailey’s passing marks the loss of one whose vision and efforts have made possible the success of this impressive institution. From its humble beginnings in Smyrna more than a century ago, the College has emerged to become the largest independent college in Greece, educating students from over 70 countries around the world.

Dr. Bailey’s courage and commitment to American-style education not only made it possible for the College to flourish, but also to serve as a beacon to Greece through some of its most difficult times. This is perhaps no more true than in recent years when the College has made as its goal to prepare this generation to face daunting new economic and social realities.

We are determined to continue to build on this proud legacy of service to Greece and the global community. We are grateful for all those who join us as alumni and friends of ACG in this noble vision. In essence, that is the meaning and ultimate purpose of our current strategic plan: ACG 150 Advancing the Legacy, Growing Greece. Together, we can make it happen!
