In the context of the ACG Community Service Day of Fall Semester 2022, a group of Deree students and ACG Faculty, Staff & Alumni visited the premises of Loulis Food Ingredients, the largest flour industry in Greece, and baked more than 900 sweet treats, which were then donated – through the NGO Boroume – to youngsters 13-22 years old with special educational needs, studying at the Laboratory of Special Vocational Education and Training of Piraeus. The initiative was coordinated by the Office of Public Affairs.

The ACG group was welcomed by the Chairman Mr. Nikolaos Loulis and by Mrs. Olga Manou, Corporate Communications & Sustainability Director and Pierce alumna. The group also got the opportunity to visit the interactive Loulis Museum, which traces the company’s history since 1879 and, among other things, raises awareness about healthy nutrition, as well as food waste and ways to tackle it.

“I would like to thank the students, faculty, staff and alumni, that got together and baked with love in their hearts, smile on their faces and the motto of our School “To serve and not to be served” in their minds for giving out joy to those who need it the most! As Mahatma Gandhi once said “The simplest acts of kindness are by far more powerful than a thousand heads bowing in prayer." Also, a big thank you goes out to the administration and staff of Loulis Food Ingredients, especially Mrs. Olga Manou for their support and warm welcome”, stated Rania Assariotaki, ACG Senior Sustainability Manager, Office of Public Affairs.

“It was such a pleasure to be part of this community service day at the Loulis Food Ingredients factory. We were warmly welcomed by the Chairman and the pastry chefs that helped us bake cookies to donate. Very interesting was the fact that this family business has a long history of over 300 years and by our visit to the museum we saw how the industry grew through the times while technologies were changing. It was a very fun and exciting experience that I will definitely repeat!”, said Stamatia Gounari, Operations Management student.

“A day full of experience for us thirty-three people! We saw and heard, we learned. Such fun baking those reddish cookies. We worked like professionals, but we volunteered!”, said Maria Ioannidou, Pierce alumna.
