The devastation and loss of life stemming from the earthquakes on February 6 that hit southern Turkey and northern Syria are staggering and horrific.
ACG is home to a number of students who are from Turkey and Syria and who also have friends and family living in these countries. We want to reach out to all members of the ACG family who have been affected directly or indirectly by this tragedy to let you know that we are here for you and want to do everything we can to support you at this very difficult time.
Specifically, we encourage you to use our campus resources, including the
ACG Counseling Center, which offers individual and group counseling in English and Arabic to members of our community. A counselor can be contacted via email at
counseling@acg.edu or telephone at
210/6009800, ext. 1080.
In addition,
the ACG Health and Wellness Center is available to students, faculty and staff looking for alternative techniques to cope with stress, including meditation and mindfulness, as well as other issues that may arise. You can stop by the Wellness Center at
Deree Main Building, Room 205, or book an appointment through
s.themelis@acg.edu. If you would like to read articles and watch videos related to self-care, please visit the
ACG Health and Wellness Center webpage.
As part of our response to the earthquake, we are organizing an
ACG community event on Friday, February 10 at 14.30 in the Deree Student Lounge to express our solidarity and launch a program of action in support of relief efforts. Please join us! ACG students, faculty and staff are exploring various ways to contribute to the people of Turkey and Syria, we will inform you of any further opportunities as they develop.
Our thoughts are with all those impacted by these tragic events.
