On November 10, 2022, the Center of Excellence in Food, Tourism and Leisure (CoEFTL), together with the Manchester Metropolitan University and the Hellenic Mediterranean University co-organized a Place Branding Day event at The American College of Greece.
The event was a combination of lectures and workshops aiming to introduce the concept of place branding to students, faculty, and industry representatives. The importance and complexity of the concept was addressed, considering its inherently interdisciplinary nature. Through the presentations of relevant case studies, and the application of theory in practice, the audience had the chance to discover the fascinating world of place branding starting from the city of Athens and traveling across Greece.
During the morning session of the event, academics and practitioners shared their knowledge and experience, providing the audience with interesting insights into the theoretical aspects and practical applications of place branding, as well as the challenges faced in the process and the way forward. The afternoon session of the event was a workshop dedicated to students from Athens, UK, and Crete, who were given the opportunity to work in teams on a branding strategy proposal based on a real case study.
All guests and participants were excited about the discussions and networking that took place during the day, while as a closing remark everyone agreed that this should become an annual event!
