School of Business and Economics Faculty and Instructors' research interests lie in applied business and economics areas, notably in financial economics, investment portfolio analysis, shipping and logistics, tourism and food, human resources management and entrepreneurship management. They regularly publish articles in leading international business and economics journals, such as Oxford Economic Papers; European Financial Management; Energy Economics; European Journal of Finance; Journal of Common Market Studies; Transportation Research Part A and Part E; Annals of Tourism Research; Food Quality and Preference and Foods. School of Business and Economics Faculty and Instructors have strong links with the local and the international academic community in their specific fields, co-authoring research papers and grant proposals, as well as serving as journal associate editors. They regularly present their research in national and international conferences organized by academic institutions, associations and societies.
The Accounting, Economics and Finance department faculty are deeply committed to teaching and scholarship aiming at bridging research engagement with classroom instruction. The department fosters interaction between faculty and students and provides opportunities for collaborative research. All faculty are scholarly active in a broad range of fields. Research topics cover microeconomics, macroeconomics, shipping, financial markets, defense economics, international finance, sustainable economics and finance, labor economics, public finance, total quality management and earnings management. A wide range of methods is employed, both theoretical and empirical. The aim is to publish the outcome of the research activity in leading economic and finance journals.
Management and International Business faculty research covers a wide range of topics in the areas of entrepreneurship, including research on innovation in startups and entrepreneurship also in the shipping sector, human resource management, including research on talent management in the private and public sector, leadership, people analytics and effects of the pandemic on business, international business, including research on innovation and technology in international business, sustainability, AI and the UNSDGs in international business, and tourism management, including research on wine tourism, dark tourism, and linkages between tourism and agriculture. MIB faculty also publish in the areas of food marketing, marketing and sales, smart cities, blockchain technology in the shipping industry, as well as teaching and learning in higher education, including remote learning and its effects during the pandemic.
Our teaching is complemented by research in various fields, such as Data Science, Technology Enhanced Learning, Information and Society, Organizational Transformation, and Quality Assurance in Higher Education. Research is frequently conducted jointly by information systems scientists, engineers, economists, and social scientists from Greece and abroad. Qualitative and Quantitative Research carried out by marketing faculty focuses on the subject areas of Advertising, Marketing Communications, Branding, Corporate Branding, Celebrity Branding, Luxury Marketing, Digital Marketing, Healthcare Marketing, Food Marketing, Sports Marketing, Consumer Behavior, Consumer Resistance Behavior, Diffusion of Technological Innovations, Bank Marketing, Services Marketing, and Customer Service to Internships and Employability, Education for Disabled and Vulnerable, Education and Student Engagement, Sports Tourism, and Usability Testing. Collaborations between academics, as well as between academics and practitioners are welcome both in the case of research and grant proposals.
Faculty in the MTL department are active researchers in their fields of expertise and regularly publish their research in peer-reviewed journals. They also participate in international conferences and research projects. MTL faculty research focuses on Freight Market Modelling, Strategic Management in Shipping, Maritime Economics, Maritime Clusters, Sustainability in Shipping, Shipping Finance, Smart Mobility and Logistics.
The faculty in the Department of Tourism, Hospitality, and Sports pursue a variety of research areas/topics and are currently active in sports marketing, sports event management, sports tourism, tourism and technology, services marketing, tourism marketing, consumer behavior, co-creation, and services ecosystems with referred and non-refereed publications, book chapters and submitted proposals to European and international platforms for external funding.
